Biography
For fifteen years, I worked full-time as an adult education teacher, conducting courses in neighbourhood centers, not-for-profit agencies and community colleges. The courses I taught inlcude: graphic design, computer applications, creative writing, communications, small business start-up, life skills, employment readiness, technical writing and creativity workshops. Since becoming a parent, and moving to a rural community, I have taught part-time for the past thirteen years. With courses in communication, writing, business development, sport and fitness, and organizational development, I have had the joy of teaching adults, youth and children.
As an author I publish under my full name, Dallas Jennifer Cobb. I have written articles about everything from garden design to herbs for health, from practical parenting to planning wedding rituals, from environmental art to homelessness. I write fiction and non-fiction, undertaking technical writing, ghost writing, academic, corporate and grant writing. I have over 200 published articles and essays; research resulting in publication; course curriculum and lesson plans; and essays that have been anthologized in books including Three Ring Circus: How Real Couples Balance Marriage, Work and Family, Seal Press, 2004 and Far From Home: Father-Daughter Travel Adventures, Seal Press, 2004. I have regularly participated in National Novel Writing Month (www.nanowrimo.org) and completed 6 novel length manuscripts.
As a communication consultant, I have facilitated Board training and development, sensitivity and appropriate communication training, strategic planning sessions and annual general meetings and reports. I regularly conduct community based research, working primarily in the not-for-profit sector, with research and publications focusing on homelessness, housing and health.
I am diversely educated: a graduate of the University of Toronto, Faculty of Arts and Science; with certificates in Library Management, Board Governance, Freelance Editing, Restorative Practices and Pilates Mat and Small Equipment Instruction.
I live in a magical village on the shores of Lake Ontario with my daughter. In addition to wandering the beaches, juggling all my different jobs, and working out, I am currently at work on several writing projects, including a book proposal.
